Two duty cycles, one page. Solar and off-grid cycling on the left. Standby and telecom backup on the right. Pick the duty and see the applicable ATB series.
Why Solar is Different
Float Batteries Fail in Solar Duty.
UPS and Telecom Float
Battery sits at 100 percent state of charge for years. Discharge is rare. Grid keeps the float voltage stable. Thin plates and low self-discharge work fine.
Solar and Off-Grid Cycling
Battery discharges every night. Recharges during sun hours. Often sits at partial state of charge for days. Ambient temperature runs hot. Float-grade AGM is not specified for these conditions and can lose capacity in 12 to 18 months under partial-state-of-charge operation.
Solar needs cycling-duty plate design, not standby plate design. The ATB range covers both. The tiers below map real daily load to the right series.
System Sizing
Pick the Tier that Matches Your Daily Load.
Daily load in watt-hours drives capacity. Autonomy days, depth-of-discharge target and ambient temperature shape the final specification. Match your load to a tier below, then contact us for sizing against your exact system.
01
Small Rural Solar Home Systems
Up to 1 kWh daily load. Lights, fan, phone charging, small TV, radio.
Light cycling duty. GP general-purpose AGM serves this tier where depth-of-discharge stays under 40 percent and charge cycles are shallow. Sealed, maintenance-free and tolerant of rural install conditions.
1 to 3 kWh daily load. Lighting, fans, fridge, small inverter duty.
Daily cycling. DC deep-cycle AGM handles up to 80 percent DoD on shift duty with partial state-of-charge rest between charges. Heavy positive grids and high-density active paste for cycle life.
3 to 10 kWh daily load. Full home inverter, AC starter, appliance loads, metro residential backup.
Deep daily cycling. DC12 series in the 105 to 260 Ah band matches most single-house installs. Plate thickness and grid alloy tuned for cycling, not cranking. Installable in multiple orientations and gas-recombinant sealed.
Reference tool only. Formula: Required Ah = (Daily Wh × Autonomy) / (System V × DoD × Temp Derate × Inverter Eff). Temperature derate factors follow IEEE 1013 sizing practice for lead-acid PV banks. Final bank sizing should account for charge controller limits, cable runs, ambient swing, and expected cycle count. Contact ATB sales for an engineered proposal.
Five Series. One Solar Toolkit.
Match Chemistry to Duty.
AGM GP for solar home systems. AGM DC for residential off-grid cycling. Gel DC for hot-climate banks. AGM LC for PSoC self-consumption. AGM 2V cells for utility-scale strings.
Solar Range — Five Product Series
Match Chemistry to Duty.
Five series cover the full solar and off-grid range, sized for the realities of African solar duty — daily deep cycling, partial state-of-charge, hot ambients and utility-scale banks. Every model below is a current ATB SKU.
Residential Solar
AGM Blocks for Daily Duty.
Sealed AGM 12V blocks for solar home systems and residential off-grid cycling. Two series: small-format GP for low-power DC, deep-cycle DC for inverter banks.
Sizing guidance. Backup sizing runs from required runtime in minutes (UPS) or hours (telecom / emergency). End-of-discharge voltage, ambient temperature and expected float voltage shape the specification. Contact ATB sales for a runtime calculation.
Standby Duty Cycle
Float for Years. Discharge When It Matters.
Backup duty sits at full state of charge for years. Discharge is rare, often finite, and the load profile depends on the application. Plate design, low self-discharge and stable float voltage matter more than cycling depth.

Telecom and Outdoor Cabinets
Remote sites, base stations, fibre nodes, outdoor cabinets. Wide ambient, long float intervals.
Front-terminal AGM and 2V cells dominate this duty. Ten to fifteen year design float life. Front-terminal layout simplifies cabinet maintenance and rack installation.
Small-format general-purpose VRLA for ten or more years of float duty between change-outs. Low self-discharge, stable float voltage, multi-orientation install.
Devices that must not lose power. Medical trolleys, PLC racks, instrumentation, automation cabinets.
Compact sealed VRLA blocks. Maintenance-free, multi-orientation, low gassing for enclosed equipment installs. Design float life five to ten years at 25 deg C.
GP, FT and HR Series cover five to twelve year design float life in telecom huts, UPS rooms and remote outdoor sites. 2V cells extend the upper end to fifteen years.
Specify by Runtime and Ambient.
Backup sizing starts from required runtime in minutes (UPS, switchgear) or hours (telecom, emergency lighting). End-of-discharge voltage, ambient temperature and expected float voltage shape the final specification. Contact ATB sales for a runtime calculation across any of the standby series.
Compliance reference. Stationary VRLA performance per IEC 60896-21 (test methods) and IEC 60896-22 (requirements). All ATB standby series specifications align to these frameworks. Detailed datasheets and runtime curves available on request.
