1Purpose

This guide explains every mark printed on an ATB valve-regulated lead-acid battery and the rule behind it. It is the information on the meaning of labels and symbols that the Regulation requires to be made available to end-users (Article 74(1), point (e)) and is accessible through the QR code on the battery. Label content is fixed by ATB Power as manufacturer; the layout will be aligned to the harmonised specifications of the implementing act under Article 13(10) once that act is published in the Official Journal.

White print on the dark case, long side face. The same elements appear on every range; values, dimensions and terminal information change per model. Batteries placed on the Union market carry two further printed elements, the QR code (Section 4) and the electrolyte line “Contains dilute sulphuric acid” (Annex VI, Part A, point 8), and a separate identification label with the manufacturer’s postal address and the importer’s details (Section 5); the CE marking is reproduced from the official vector artwork in its fixed proportions.

3Label elements and their meaning

Scanning the code opens the ATB compliance page, which gives access to: the information of Annex VI, Part A; the EU declaration of conformity (Article 18); the statement that no due diligence report under Article 52(3) is required; and the information on prevention and management of waste batteries under Article 74(1), points (a) to (f). The code is printed in high contrast in a size readable by a hand-held device (Annex VI, Part C); the symbol is a version 2 QR code, error-correction level M, encoded in upper-case alphanumeric mode to keep the module count low for small labels.

Printing guidance: minimum 10 mm × 10 mm including the light margin (quiet zone) of four modules on every side; do not distort the aspect ratio; verify readability on the first production sample of each case size.

5Identification label: manufacturer’s address and EU importer

Batteries placed on the Union market carry a separate identification label, applied to the battery or to its packaging, with two entries: the postal address of the manufacturer, ATB Power Limited (Article 38(7)), and the name, postal address and, if available, web and e-mail address of the importer (Article 41(3)). Where the label sits on the packaging rather than on the battery, the same information is repeated in the documents accompanying the consignment, in a language easily understood by end-users of the Member State concerned. The silkscreen itself carries no address, so the same artwork serves every market.

6Sizing of the separate collection symbol (Art. 13(4))

The crossed-out wheeled bin covers at least 3 % of the area of the largest side of the battery, up to a maximum of 5 × 5 cm; where the symbol would be smaller than 0.47 × 0.47 cm it is printed on the packaging at 1 × 1 cm or more instead. The “Pb” symbol is printed directly beneath the bin and covers at least one quarter of the bin’s area. Worked example: a case whose largest side measures 151 × 94 mm (141.9 cm²) needs a bin of at least 4.26 cm² (about 2.1 × 2.1 cm) and a “Pb” of at least 1.06 cm². The sizing for every model is recorded with the label artwork in the technical file (TF-VRLA-10) and is measured at final print size on the case.

7Standing of this document

This guide is issued by ATB Power Limited as the manufacturer of the products it covers, from the records in its technical file: type tests and material screening on representative models, the production site’s material declarations, the label specifications and ATB Power’s own evaluations. No laboratory or certification body has assessed the document itself, and it does not stand in for the reports behind it. It describes the products as built at the date printed above; ATB Power re-issues it when a design, a material, a production site, a legal requirement or a piece of evidence changes, and the version reachable through the QR code on the battery is the current one. Market surveillance authorities receive the underlying technical documentation on reasoned request (Article 38(10) of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542); customers who need extracts for their own compliance records can obtain them under a confidentiality agreement by writing to info@atbpower.com.
